Our Story

Founded in Beijing in 2013, Principle M is an independent tailoring house dedicated to timeless menswear, traditional craftsmanship, and a thoughtful approach to personal style.

What began as founder Justin Kwan's passion for classic menswear more than two decades ago has evolved into a pursuit of something much more meaningful: creating clothing that reflects not only how a person looks, but how they live.

Our aesthetic is rooted in classical tailoring, interpreted with a modern sensibility. We believe good clothing should be comfortable, functional, and elegant without being overly complicated or dictated by passing trends. Above all, it should be made to last.

A Renewed Focus on Craftsmanship

Over the years, Principle M has continued to evolve. Most recently, we made the deliberate decision to move away from industrial made-to-measure production and return our focus to the craftsmanship that inspired us from the beginning.

Today, bespoke tailoring sits at the heart of what we do. Each garment begins with an individually developed pattern, cut and crafted by skilled hands in our Beijing workshop.

Leading our tailoring team is our head cutter, whose more than two decades of experience bring a depth of knowledge and understanding to every commission. From the initial pattern to the final fitting, our approach emphasizes proportion, balance, comfort, and the subtle details that make a garment truly personal.

Alongside our bespoke service, we've introduced the Artisanal Collection—a growing selection of garments that share our commitment to traditional craftsmanship, offered through a more accessible made-to-order and made-to-measure approach. Each piece is individually cut and made by an artisan, preserving the human touch that we believe is essential to good tailoring.

Beyond the Garment

For us, tailoring has always been about more than clothing. It's about the people we meet, the relationships we build, and a shared appreciation for the craft.

Through workshops, trunk shows, and gatherings, we've had the privilege of building a community of menswear enthusiasts who value individuality, quality, and the pleasure of dressing well.

While our roots remain firmly in Beijing, our reach has grown far beyond China. Through our remote bespoke service, we now work with clients around the world, bringing the same personal attention, craftsmanship, and commitment to fit to those unable to visit our workshop in person.
