At Principle M We Offer Three Ways to Order

At Principle M, we offer three approaches to tailoring. Each reflects our commitment to classical proportions and clean construction — the difference lies in the level of personalization and craftsmanship involved.

RTW & MTO

Our signature cut — refined, balanced, and thoughtfully proportioned.
Most items are made when ordering (MTO) and delivered in approximately 4–5 weeks.

MTM

Built on our house block and adjusted to your measurements and preferences for a more personalized fit. Delivered in 4-6 weeks.

Bespoke

Individually drafted, hand-cut, and crafted specifically for you.
A unique paper pattern is created based entirely on your proportions, allowing complete control over drape, balance, and silhouette.

Ideal if you value craftsmanship and a garment shaped entirely around you.

The Tailoring Process

A structured remote system, refined over years of fittings.

Whether you’re ordering a single pair of trousers or a full bespoke suit, the process is guided personally and can be completed from anywhere in the world.

1. Initial Consultation

Every project begins with a conversation.

We schedule a video call (typically around one hour) to understand:

  • How you plan to wear the garment

  • Your style preferences

  • Your sizing

  • Any fit challenges you’ve experienced in the past

During this call, I guide you through collecting key measurements. This includes:

  • Basic self measurements

  • Measurements from a garment you already own

  • Observations about posture and stance

No prior tailoring knowledge is required. The process is straightforward and guided step by step.

2. Fabric & Design Selection

There are two primary ways to begin:

Option A — Website Designs

You may choose from our growing collection of tailored designs available online from shirts to trousers to suits. These provide a structured starting point.

Option B — Fabric Library

You may explore our fabric library, organized by:

  • Season

  • Weave

  • Composition

If you’re looking for something specific — a particular mill, weight, texture, or color — we can source and curate options during your consultation. We work with a wide range of established mills and brands, many of which are not publicly listed on our website.

Design details are confirmed during this stage.

3. Fit Alignment

Fit is the foundation of everything we make.

Depending on the garment and your requirements, we proceed in one of two ways:

Direct to Tailoring

For garments like shirts or trousers — and for repeat clients — we may move directly into production after the consultation.

Trial Garments to Test the Fit

For jackets and suits, especially for first-time clients, we often recommend a trial garment (toile) or basted fitting sent to you.

This allows us to assess:

  • Balance

  • Shoulder slope

  • Chest shape

  • Posture

  • Sleeve pitch

  • Overall proportions

We then schedule a follow-up video call to review the fitting together after you receive it (3-4 weeks for delivery).

This stage ensures we are fully aligned on fit before committing to your final fabric. We have a 100% satisfaction rate when clients go this route.

The approach is always case-by-case — guided, never complicated.

There is an additional cost for trial garments: $85 for trousers, $115 for jackets and $200 for suits. The price includes shipping.

4. Production — Made-to-Measure or Bespoke

Once fit and design are confirmed, your garment moves into production.

Made-to-Measure (MTM)

  • A customized pattern

  • Machine construction, full canvas

  • Customizable design (within defined parameters)

Bespoke

  • Hand-cut pattern

  • Greater flexibility in shaping and internal structure

  • Made by a single artisan from start to finish, refined hand finishing, hand pad stitching and full canvas

  • Expanded design freedom

Both options are built with durability and longevity in mind.

5. Delivery & Ongoing Refinement

Typical production timeline:

  • 4–6 weeks without trial garment

  • 7–10 weeks if including a trial fitting

We ship worldwide with complimentary shipping. In most countries, duties and tariffs are prepaid by us so there are no surprises upon delivery.

If minor local adjustments are needed after delivery, we guide you through the process.

6. Your Pattern, Established

Once your personal pattern is built, we keep it securely on file.

This becomes the foundation for future garments.

Reorders become simpler. Adjustments are easier. New designs build on what already works.

Over time, the process becomes more efficient — and the fit continues to improve with each iteration.

You’re no longer starting from scratch. You have a working pattern and a tailor who understands it.
