Watch | Cartier’s Tank Basculante

Cartier Tank Basculante first launched in 1933, just one year after Jaeger’s reverso, both were designed to be used in sports like polo, both cases were engineered by the same company ‘Spécialités Horlogères’.

The case can be elegantly flipped to protect the dial, the motion gives its name “Basculante”, French for seesaw.

While there’s never that many people practiced polo then and now, Cartier Basculante remained as a design classic, and in comparison to reverso’s worldwide popularity, it is a true forgotten gem and a quasi “de rigueur” for collectors.

Like any great thing, even after 90 years, the design looks perfectly contemporary.
