The Garment
The first article in our Artisanal Collection, the Greatcoat is our interpretation of a classic, substantial overcoat, designed with generous proportions, a commanding silhouette, and an appreciation for the elegance of traditional outerwear.
Cut with a broad shoulder, a full chest, and a long, flowing body, the Greatcoat is designed to sit comfortably over tailoring while maintaining a distinctive silhouette of its own. Its double-breasted front and martingale back belt lend definition to the waist without compromising the coat's generous proportions.
A garment rooted in tradition, thoughtfully reinterpreted for the modern wardrobe.
The Craftsmanship
The Artisanal Collection represents a different approach to made-to-order clothing at Principle M.
Each garment begins with one of our established house patterns, developed and refined through years of bespoke tailoring. Rather than relying on an automated cutting process, every pattern is individually prepared and cut by hand, allowing for considered adjustments to the garment's proportions.
From there, the garment is entrusted to a single artisan, who brings it to life from start to finish.
This approach preserves the human element of traditional tailoring while offering a more accessible and streamlined alternative to our fully bespoke service.

Leichtfried Austrian Wool | Hazel | 640g
The first edition of Art. 001 Greatcoat is crafted from a substantial 640g Austrian wool coating by Leichtfried, presented in a rich Hazel color. Its substantial weight lends itself to the Greatcoat's generous proportions, offering warmth, structure, and an elegant drape.
Future editions of Art. 001 may be introduced in other carefully selected coating fabrics, each offering a different interpretation of the same design through cloth, texture, and color.
Additional colors availaible upon request.
Sizing & Made-to-Order
The Greatcoat is offered in our established house sizes, with selected adjustments available to better accommodate individual proportions and preferences upon request.
Depending on the design, adjustments may include garment length, sleeve length, and waist suppression.
Each coat is individually cut and made to order in our Beijing atelier.
Production lead time: 4-6 weeks
